CIHC is a unique national organization that provides health providers, teams and organizations with the resources and tools needed to apply an interprofessional, patient-centred and collaborative approach to healthcare. While many organizations are working hard to improve the health of Canadians, CIHC’s core activities are designed to make us the ‘go to’ resource for these organizations when they require expert advice, knowledge or information on interprofessional collaboration.
Starting in 2009, “Mainstream” represents CIHC’s new focus on strategies and initiatives to recruit and engage a wider array of health providers in meaningful and innovative ways, drive interprofessional collaboration beyond academic institutions, revitalize the worklives of practicing health providers and directly impact patient care.
CIHC’s start up structure was designed to address some very specific issues: curricula, research and evaluation and partnerships and knowledge exchange. Out of these activities, the CIHC has collated and synthesized a significant amount of information regarding interprofessional education and collaborative practice.
CIHC also networks individuals, teams and organizations by profiling regional interprofessional activities and other interprofessional projects.
