On Wednesday April 20th at 1PM ET health care practitioners and people interested in healthcare from across Canada and beyond will gather on twitter to participate in the weekly #HCSMCA (Health Care Social Media Canada) conversation.
#HCSMCA has been gathering followers and participants – more than 1000 and counting – since it launched in September 2010.
The conversation has usually been moderated by the wonderful and dedicated Colleen Young but now the group is really beginning to self-organize and share the role of leadership.
Moderators from various health care groups from across Canada will take the proverbial conch shell every Wednesday to lead the discussion.
The moderators will introduce ideas and direct the conversation towards their areas of expertise or practice, and in this way #HCSMCA will deepen its roots in specific communities and become a more meaningful national resource.
Please join the conversation on Wednesday April 20th as we discuss health care in Canada through the lens of interprofessional collaboration.
You can participate early by posting a topic that you’d like to see discussed during HCSMCA here.
It’ll be an awesome opportunity to engage the community across the Canada and make some new connections.
See you there!

Nice post Sean! I love the image of passing the proverbial conch shell and completely embrace the sharing. As you point out this not only diffuses the burden of duty but injects different perspectives and expertise via the moderator seat. Each moderator also brings with him/her a unique network of people to enrich our community.
I must correct my estimate of 500 #hcsmca participants. Christine Crowley (@pharmaengage) has been pulling data together and reports that we have had 1005 unique contributors using the hashtag #hcsmca between Sept 29, 2010 and March 31, 2011. (This excludes the recent onslaught of political re-tweets that wall papered our stream last week.)
Thanks to everyone for making #hcsmca a hot place for conversation and putting words into action in our local circles.
Colleen
1005! Holy cow. That’s amazing. I will amend the post above to reflect that new reality.
Looking forward to Wednesday!
